Specific response of primates to snake predators
Regásková, Kristýna ; Landová, Eva (advisor) ; Lhota, Stanislav (referee)
The specific response to snake predators in primates is due to long coevolution with snakes. This long coevolution has led to a specific and complex response in primates when confronted with snakes. The cues by which primates recognize snakes versus other types of stimuli may be based on olfactory or visual information. Reactions such as a priori fear or avoidance may be followed by various antipredatory responses such as specific vocalizations, avoidance behaviour, early escape or, conversely, active defence and mobbing. The response to venomous snakes and constrictors can vary in many ways based on the different threat they pose. Key words: Predation, mobbing, snake, primates, vocalization, anxiety
Small fiber neuropathy in peripheral and autonomic nervous system in patients with diabetes
Potočková, Veronika ; Mazanec, Radim (advisor) ; Voháňka, Stanislav (referee) ; Kunc, Pavel (referee)
Small fiber neuropathy in peripheral and autonomic nervous system in patients with diabetes Abstract This dissertation thesis wants to draw attention to the relevance of early detection of small nerve fibers damage in the somatic and autonomic nervous systems in patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T1DM, T2DM). Only early diagnosis can prevent the severe complications that progressive forms of diabetic neuropathy (DN) bring. The main objectives of this work were to evaluate the possibility of using thermal quantitative sensory testing (TQST) to identify patients with diabetes at higher risk of cardiac autonomic neuropathy (CAN) and distal symmetric polyneuropathy (DSPN) with predominant small nerve fibers impairment. Other aims were to assess the impact of CAN on the development of carotid atherosclerosis and to determine the prevalence and risk factors for depression and anxiety in diabetic patients with and without DN. The results show that TQST can be used as a screening tool to identify patients with a higher risk of CAN. We demonstrated a significant effect of CAN presence on carotid intima-media thickness in patients with T1DM, independently of known risk factors of atherosclerosis. Such a finding suggests that CAN may play a role in the pathogenesis of carotid atherosclerosis. Another...
Preparing children for planned surgeries
Suchová, Jitka ; Hájková, Vanda (advisor) ; Šumníková, Pavlína (referee)
The aim of this thesis was to find out how much and in what way children are prepared for surgical procedures. For the research were selected children at the Department of Paediatric Surgery of the Kolín Regional Hospital, from February to June 2018. In the theoretical part, risk factors for developing anxiety disorders in childhood are described. In particular, anxiety and nervousness, fear, phobia, situational anxiety and mental resilience are defined. A mixed method was used in the research. The main tool was a written questionnaire. In the case of unclear answers, an oral interview was used. In the practical part, two types of questionnaires were used. One is for hospitalized children aged 7-15 and the other for their parents. The research found that seventeen children, out of seventy, were not informed at all, or immediately before surgery. All these children were restless, or even hysterical, they were screaming and crying. The children who were informed of the operation in some way tolerated it quite well. So we can say that most of the children were prepared. Mostly it was only by conversation with parents. The educational material was not used because there is not currently appropriate one.
The personality traits in the common vole (\kur{Microtus arvalis}): The behavioural display in the Elevated plus maze
ELIÁŠ, Zdeněk
The aim of this study was to determine whether the vole (Microtus arvalis) exhibit behavioral variability in testing in the elevated plus maze that is the most common used test to assess anxiety. The behavioural variability was demonstrated in an elevated plus maze. PCA analysis clearly distinguished behavioural types. Further differences were found in the locomotion trajectory between males and females and between non-lactating and lactating females.
Conduct disorders as a result of specific learning disorders
VOKROJOVÁ, Nela
This thesis focuses on relationship between specific learning disorders and conduct disorders in puberty. The theoretical part explains the basic terms apearing in the thesis such as specific learning disorders, conduct disorders, puberty and prevention of conduct disorder formation. It presents Czech and foreign research which have already been done in this and related areas. The empirical part uses a quantitative method to measure anxiety and occurrence of conduct disorders in second grade students in 2. ZŠ in Třeboň and ZŠ Londýnská in Prague. Data gained from children with specific learning disorder are compared with data from children without disorder.
